This is what the cover of my kids' book is going to look like. It's a bit weird to see it, considering I am still madly working on the draft, but it is also very exciting. The same illustrator has done all the covers and illustrations in the series to give them a unified look and feel. A few people asked me if I would've preferred to do it myself, but I was actually really happy to have someone else do it and I like the way they look. The plans is to get the final draft done this weekend, in between searching for houses...
Went and spoke to the Sensei last night about the MA and what I should do. I think at this stage I'd still like to finish it, although I'm undecided whether or not I should make a mad dash to get it done before October or if I should be more realistic and accept that I'll just have to defer for a while. My biggest concern was that blogging as a phenomenon will disappear while I've deferred, but at this stage that seems unlikely.
We discussed potential new directions for the blog. Is it bad form (or bad luck) to turn your unborn child into a cartoon character? Not sure... Sensei suggested making the MA thesis itself a character - something looming, menacing, and completely silent. Perhaps a blank page that casts an enormous shadow, or an empty computer screen.
Something Crown Princess Mary of Denmark and I don't have in common: I think it's unlikely that anyone called Princess M last night and told her her flat is being auctioned in a month and that she'll have to start looking for a new place to live. Joy. Can't wait for all that tramping around looking at flea pits, then packing and moving. Should be really, really great.
