This supposedly ancient animation is clearly a hoax. I guess what they're saying is that the frames appear as a freize around the goblet, but if this were the case you would see the lines of the trees and the decorative lines at the top and bottom moving with each frame. Not to mention the texture of the goblet itself... Still, it'd be cute if it were true. (via Boing Boing)
It's really, really quiet on Smith St today. Normally, crossing it is a terrifying experience, involving much hand-wringing and dithering but today I was practically able to polka in the middle of the road.
There's nothing lonelier and more echoey than an open-plan office when you are the only one there. It's just me and twenty computers, humming menacingly at me. I've pulled up the blinds on my window and the sky is menacing too. It rained heavily the moment I got up, then stopped once I arrived, and is now preparing itself for its evening attack.
I checked my last year's new years resolutions this morning and they seemed to be to ride the bike regularly and to chew my food more slowly. I've definitely ridden the bike alot, but the chewing-rate has not slowed at all. And since I left my mouth guard in Adelaide I'm back to gnashing them furiously all night long.
This year I did plan to cut back on salt, but I've already given that up as way too hard. I've been telling myself that this is the year of doing lots of writing but I'm feeling very uninspired since I failed, yet again, to win the Herald Sun short story comp. Or even get a place. The results were meant to be published today and I actually couldn't find them. Perhaps they cancelled it. Perhaps all the entries were so terrible that they decided just to let it slide. And on the subject of letting things slide, this year I should really think about what I'm doing with this whole MA thing. But I don't want to think about it. So I won't.
