Well, given the recent election results in Australia the US results is hardly a surprise. But it's depressing all the same. I'm not going to talk about it - there's too many other people who can do it better than I. Word count is 36 thousand. I seem to have timed my writing frenzy with National Novel Writing Month and while I'm not signed up to it, in some ways it's quite comforting to think that there are other people engaged in this frenzy of writing. I've been lurking around in the forums, being amused. I got a call from the Eastern Regional Libraries short story competition yesterday. My story has been commended, whatever that means (it's a little too close to condemned for my liking.) No money, which is a shame, because I quite like the idea of money, but apparently I get a nice certificate which, if I were so inclined, could be awarded to me at an official award ceremony. I am not so inclined, as it happens.
I've written 32000 words now. Most of them are not very good and will probably have to be replaced with other words but still, it's something. I did not pick a winner in the Melbourne Cup and went for a hike at Kinglake which, as La Spin pointed out to me later, has neither a lake nor any kings. The weather was wonderful for the first hour then it rained solidly for the remaining four.
