More Illustrations

Antony has sent me a wonderful link toHeart Agency where not only are there numerous, fabulous images by Sara Fanelli but also glorious things from people whose work I've not seen before.

I love these ones by Marc Boutavant, particularly the one of the raccoon playing badmintion with the giraffe (I love the slightly smug expression on the giraffe's face, who clearly isn't letting up on the raccoon, even though he has such an obvious advantage).

I'm also very taken with these fifties-esque images by Phil Hankinson - just lovely.

These ones by Allan Sanders are also great.

I love it when people send you things like this - I keep coming back to the site and discovering new things every time.

Googled

It's quite amazing to think that a Google search can decide the fate of a kidnapped journalist.

Illustrations

On two separate occasions I have picked up a book, attracted by the cover and discovered it's been created by the same person, Sarah Fanelli. I very much like her work - the mix of materials, the colour, the hand- lettering. She doesn't have a website so I've had to glean images here and there from the internet. This article about her practice is very interesting, particularly her attraction to found materials. It's made me want to start doing collage. Fanelli cites Kurt Schwitters as an influence, whose work I also really like. I saw some of his work at the Tate Modern this year - elegantly arranged pieces of scrap material.

I'm fascinated by the description of her book Dear Diary - it's written from the perspective of various characters including a firefly and a knife & fork. I must hunt it down.

Also, an excellent link from Looby Lu - 100 years of Illustration and Design. Currently it's looking at beautiful work by Edward Penfield. Like Claire, I shall be visiting often.
