Just boughtthis gorgeous book at lunchtime, containing all of Raymond Briggs' work (including Father Christmas, which I always loved as a kid). I keep sneaking looks at it. And the best bit: reduced from 60 bucks to 25.
The Style File is a group folio site of Australian illustrators including Sally Rippen who I met at the writers' group last week.
There are some nice things there, including these pieces by Maggie Dannatt and these by Craig Smith who also has a site here which has some good things although it's a little frustrating that in the selected bibliography he doesn't show any images of the books he mentions. A bit weird on an illustrator's site, I thought.
(both The Style File and Craig Smith Illustration are flash sites)
I'm off to New Zealand next week for a work conference. An email from the organisers came around yesterday - they have set all attendees and trade partners up with a blog. The Brownie, who is also attending, decided that I should be our official blogger for the week. So I logged on to our official bloggin space and then... nothing. Couldn't think of a thing to write. It is a very different experience writing on behalf of your place of work to blogging as an individual.
Things are busy. Have launched into a freelance job and am working on a project with Petite which may lead to another one. Sent a story off to another competition last week. I probably shouldn't have sent it, because it was terrible, but I'd become obsessed with meeting the deadline. The number of boxes in our flat is gradually diminishing, although it's a bit of an illusion because we're actually just hiding them in cupboards. Thieu is busy writing letters to every politian he can think of reminding them that the environment is a key issue in the upcoming elections. The Parental Unit is off to China and France at the end of next week for a holiday, having taken Mandarin lessons and dusted off their high-school French.
27 degrees today in Melbourne. The ride into work this morning was beautiful.
