I very much like these illustrations by Brian Rea. This one, for instance. And this. The Tupperware one is great, too. I love the soft, retro colours. And I like the title of this one.
I went to a writers' group last night. I've resisted joining this kind of thing in the past, mostly because of time (I feel like I don't have any) and also, well, perhaps shyness/laziness, I'm not sure. My Heavily Pregnant Friend told me about this - she's working on a kids' book and knew of the group because one of her friends is in it. So we organised to go together. HPF rang at about 4, however. She's got to the stage where she can only really manage one major outing a day and had already been to Portsea and back. "But you should go anyway." she said. So I did. And I really enjoyed it. I was impressed by how well it went - we'd been emailed two stories to read and to comment on in the session. Useful things were said. I came away feeling quite elated - it was quite a weird sensation to be in a roomful of people discussing the same things that I'm thinking about all the time. Face-to-face contact rather than internet contact. Interesting concept. I'm not quite sure if I'm ready to show anything of my own but I'll definitely keep going.
And today is round two of the Corporate Cup. I'm thinking I might need my mother to write me a note.
