Miniature Stories

Petite sent me this link this morning: Guardian Unlimited Books | Short short stories thinking, correctly, that it is the sort of thing I would like. She's right. There's something about the ultra short story that appeals a great deal. Some of Eggers pieces are great - I'm not so sure about the finalists, although I did quite like "I am good with animals."

Although essentially IceRocket is just a revamped Google I do quite like the thumbnails that appear beside each listing (although sometimes no thumbnail is available.)

Found on The Age online where there is also information about that blog-loving newspaper, The Guardian.

Yesterday I found an interview on The Onion with my favourite online cartoonist, James Kochalka which is interesting to read if you like his work but I daresay is very uninteresting if you don't.

Shower of Extremes

I've been staying at my parents place for the last week, waiting until Thieu returns on Saturday before we move into our flat. It's perfectly lovely in many respects staying at mum and dad's - there are not many other houses you can walk into and start eating food out of their fridge. They tape things for me. Mum has even set up the spare room that I'm currently occupying with a picture of Thieu by my bed, so I can remember what he looks like.

The bad side is the shower, which is an awful thing, quite possibly possessed by demons. It is a shower of extremes; there's hot, there's cold in horrible, inescapable quantities, but there's nothing in between. You can hear whoever is in the bathroom leaping back and forth, dancing around the alternating scorching and freezing streams of water.

So I have thrown my hands up in the air and acknowledged defeat. I know have my shower at work. And on Sunday I even accompanied the parental unit to the swimming pool and did laps for the sole purpose of having a shower at the end. I suppose I could've just had the shower and then read my book for an hour, but that didn't occur to me until I was already doing laps.

Swimming is ok, but I hate the goggle marks, which seem to stay on my face for hours.
