Germany We left France this morning and are currently in Heidelberg, heading for Berlin. Spent the last two days in Paris staying with some friends and having a very lovely time not doing very much at all. Our friend, S, is Australian and on the morning we arrived he suggested that we catch the metro into town and have a wander around. As we were about to leave a friend of his called to say an Australian friend of his had turned up and he was going to show him around. We met up in an Irish pub and drank 12 dollar pots of Guiness (well, I had a 6 dollar cup of tea instead.)
Last Thursday we went to Mont Dore in the Massif Centrale and climbed Mont Sancy which is the highest peak in the centre of France. Before that we visited the prehistoric cave paintings at Peche Merle. We saw the cathedral at Reims and admired its Chagall glass window. We've found some English easy listening stations on the hire car radio which has been just great except we're a little tired of Norah Jones. All in all, we seem to be having the holiday of a middle-aged couple, which is a little alarming, and not surprisingly, the only people we see at any of these places are middle aged couples. Where are all the thiry-ish nerdish couples who like visiting mediaeval castles and wineries? Surely we can't be the only ones.
